RCS Canada has prepared a brief question for all major party leaders in the 2025 Federal Election regarding the future of Canada and its role in the global Commonwealth alliance. Please find below the response(s) we have received to date for your reference.
![]() | While the Green Party of Canada has not taken a formal position on the monarchy, personally speaking, I am a monarchist. Canada’s parliamentary democracy is a Constitutional Monarchy — a system that, despite being hampered by First Past the Post voting, is superior to that of the United States. Given the Trump administration’s irrational economic policies, our alliances with other countries are more critical than ever. The Commonwealth family of nations is a strategic asset, as is our relationship with La Francophonie. We will also continue to deepen ties with the European Union, Scandinavia, and Asian democratic partners, such as Japan and South Korea. As the only political party in Canada with a truly international face — with over 400 Green parliamentarians elected worldwide — we work closely with our Green colleagues abroad. Our vision is not limited by national boundaries, even as we always put Canada first. – Elizabeth May April 21st, 2025 |
