HUMANITARIAN DINNER 2013

RCS.Peter.Cindy.Charles.15Feb2013 (2)On February 15th the 26th annual Humanitarian Dinner was held, once again at the Sheraton Hotel.  Some 85 members and friends attended.  The speaker was Dr. Roseann Runte, President and Vice-Chancellor of Carleton University, whose speech, entitled “Do we have Common Wealth in a time of Bursting Bubbles”, was interesting, amusing and challenging.

The recipient of the funds raised at the dinner this year was the CANHAVE CHILDREN’S CENTRE  INC.  which supports children in some primary and secondary schools around Kampala, Uganda, as well as a Vocational School in Kisubni, Uganda.

A silent auction took place during the dinner, supplied by donations by the High Commissions of Australia, Barbados, Britain, Brunei, Jamaica, Lesotho, Sri Lanka, and Uganda, as well as the International Restaurant at Algonquin College, Host India Restaurant and Dr. Peter Meincke.

The Sheraton Hotel, as usual, provided a delicious meal, Turkey Supreme, which was much enjoyed by most.  A few had to pay attention to the fact that it was the first Friday of Lent and they were also well taken care of.

In all we raised a little over $2300 for CANHAVE Children’s Centre Inc., and those present had an enjoyable time.
