The Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS) was established in 1949 following the creation of the modern Commonwealth, and has its Headquarters in London, UK. The Ottawa Branch was established in 1958. Membership is open to any citizen of the Commonwealth who undertakes to support the objectives defined in the Society's Charter.
The objectives of the Society are: The RCS has branches in most countries of the Commonwealth. In Canada, there are branches in Victoria, Vancouver, Regina, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Saint John, Halifax, Charlottetown and St. John's. The National Council, RCS of Canada, elects its members from these branches, and meets annually. The patron of the Society in Canada is the Governor General, His Excellency the Right Honourable Roméo LeBlanc. Among the most active around the world, the Ottawa Branch has a membership of over 300 individuals and organizations who represent a wide variety of backgrounds: the private and public sectors, diplomatic missions, professional associations, academia, etc. Click here to learn more about membership. |
